The Two Best Classic Hobby Shops

1. Finley’s Hobbies

Finley’s Hobbies has been family-owned and run since its founding in 1967. This lovely family is known for being extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They’re not just there to sell you something—they’re also there to answer your questions and help solve any problems you may be having with your hobby supplies.

But back to the selling part. They’ve got radio-controlled airplanes, cars, boats, helicopters, and more, alongside drones and reloading supplies. Yep, that’s right—you can buy ammunition as well as a radio-controlled boat in the same shop! Isn’t Kansas awesome?

Needless to say, Finley’s Hobbies is definitely worth a stop. Supporting local and family-owned businesses is what Wichita’s all about.

2. Hobbytown Wichita

Okay, okay, I know this is a chain, but hear me out. On the off chance that you can’t find whatever you may need at the stores above, this is the place for you.

Just like Finley’s Hobbies, they specialize in radio-controlled products, like planes, trains, and automobiles. They do cost a pretty penny, so bring your wallet!

That’s not all, though! They’ve also got a huge selection of LEGOS and other designed-for-kids toys that are sure to please. The holiday season is upon us, and if you’ve got a young one in your life, there’s a good chance their gift is in Hobbytown.

Plus, they have tools and games. Tons of games! Like I said before, Hobbytown is a great place to go for your holiday shopping.

Other Craft Shops

Mrs. O’Leary’s Mercantile

Mrs. O’Leary’s Mercantile is the one-stop shop for all your crafting needs. They’ve got baubles, antiques, stamps, fibers, rhinestones, metalsmith and soldering products, paper, and I know I’m missing a thing or two. They truly have everything.

They also offer workshops, art classes, and art therapy for all levels! And, if you’re not feeling too crafty, they do sell some pre-made goodies there too, like jewelry, Milagro hearts, and painted bags!

Did I mention the friendly shop cats that live there? So sweet. Aside from their four-legged friends, the staff and owners of the shop are always happy to help other people on their creative journeys. So, you never have to be afraid to ask a question or two!

The Loud Cicada

Muralist and artist Delilah Reed opened the Loud Cicada in an effort to bring her art and message into the hearts and homes of Wichita. I’ve got two of her shirts—one cicada, one butterfly—in my drawer, and I always get compliments when I wear them out.

This shop is a fabulous place to gather some inspiration, especially if you love printmaking! You can buy art and other local goodies here, as well as attend an art class or special event, like their beloved poetry nights. You can even reserve a private class if you’re feeling shy!

Best of all, the Loud Cicada has its own card writing (and confetti!) station with all the fixings. You get to play around and make a gorgeous card, while Delilah does all the mailing. Let’s be real: is there anything more heartfelt than receiving a letter in the mail? I think not!

Heart’s Desire Cross Stitch & Custom Framing

As the largest cross-stitch shop in the state of Kansas, Heart’s Desire is truly your new one-stop shop. Renowned for their huge selection of fabrics, threads, and models, they also have beyond friendly staff who are sure to help you on your journey.

You can buy kits here to start your journey or get some inspiration from the many cross stitches hanging on the walls! They sell thread, needles, charts, and whatever else you might need. If you think you won’t be able to find anything you like, keep in mind they have over 600 models displayed around the shop. 600!

Heart’s Desire is unique in that they also frame embroideries! You can take yours in to be framed and set perfectly, so your stitches will be preserved forever.

Picket Fence Quilt Co

Years ago, I was taught how to quilt by my next-door neighbor over many cups of tea and hours of Judge Judy. This beautiful process makes for an amazing gift and heartwarming heirloom. It means the most to me, and I hope to encourage others to take it up too!

So, if you’re looking to start, it’s time to go shopping at Picket Fence! With over 100 quilting models on display, they’re clearly more advanced than just rag quilts.

They’ve got endless droves of fabric, blocks, patterns, accessories, and more. Plus, you can sign up for their block of the month if you want a regular surprise to keep you on your toes!

Established in 2005, these folks seriously know what they’re doing. They offer classes, but they’re also happy and able to answer any and all of your questions.

And if you’re not ready to quilt yet, they sell yarn too. 😊

2 Moms Craft Shack

Located in the Paramount Antique Malls & Marketplace—one of our favorite antique shops—this little craft shack is pretty gosh darn new!

Originally from Oklahoma, these moms are bringing their favorite crafting supplies to the Midwest. With vinyl, glitter, foil, stickers, inks, paints, and a whole lot more, this shop is perfect for decals and Epoxy fun.

Plus, they have a whole wall solely dedicated to glitter. And who doesn’t love glitter?
