best lunch wichita ks

When the lunch cravings hit, they hit hard. And let’s be real—if you’re working remotely or in an office, there’s only so much time you can take off to eat.

Or, let’s say you need to impress your boss or a potential new client…

In either case, that lunch food has got to be good. And while lunch can be hit-or-miss, but these spots never are.

Here are my seven favorite places to grab lunch in Wichita. From buffet to sandwich shop, I’ve got you covered.

Map of the Best Lunch Spots in Wichita, KS

Old Mill Tasty Shop

Located in beloved Old Town, we have our favorite blast from the past, Old Mill Tasty Shop! This iconic Wichita haunt is known for its old-timey décor and authentic retro vibes. It’s fast, easy, and has delicious, classic lunch fare.

They do offer daily specials, which you can view ahead of time on their Facebook. For example, Mondays are enchilada days; lasagna and chicken fried chicken are two other local favorites. Best of all, Old Mill Tasty Shop makes delicious old-fashioned malts and sodas with their own machines! My old boss loved their green chili, while the rest of us can’t get enough of their baked beans.  Little bits of bacon? Yes, ma’am!

It can get busy, so I recommend going between 1:00 and 3:00 if you’re not a fan of crowds.

Tanya’s Soup Kitchen

Tanya’s Soup Kitchen is more than a lunch spot: it’s a way of life. My father owns their cookbooks and has for years. Every holiday season, we crack them open and find a new soup to try.

Don’t be afraid to try their sandwiches too! They always have crusty bread and a perfect helping of melty cheese. I swear their Croquadille is heaven-sent.

They also have plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, and others can be altered upon order. They offer different soup specials every day too, so you can always switch it up.

Plus, can just walk across the road to grab a fresh donut from the Donut Hole for dessert. It’s a good life after all.

College Hill Deli

College Hill Deli brings out fresh, homemade meals in record time, which makes them perfect for lunch. Bringing the flavor without sacrificing efficiency!

This restaurant is one of my favorite joints for Mediterranean food in Wichita, largely due to the owner, Ali. With each plate of food also comes a healthy heaping of laughter, and what’s not to love about that?

Their shawarma is to die for, as is the gyro. Trust me, you can’t go wrong here. It’s fast, easy, fresh, casual, and, best of all, good.

Knolla’s Pizza

Knolla’s is a family favorite, personal favorite, and everyone’s favorite! Aside from being some of the best pizza in Wichita, Knolla’s is also efficient and kind. Seriously—their servers are so Midwestern, and I mean that in the best way!

Plus, they have lunch specials, so you won’t order a whole pie and stuff your face. With each slice or small pan comes a salad, though you could sub it for breadsticks too. Recently, they added calzones to their menu as well—we love to see it!

With three in Wichita and one in Maize, no matter where you are, a Knolla’s isn’t too far.

B&C Barbecue

With some of the best barbecue in Wichita, B&C is the place to be.

The lunch buffet opens at 11 AM with varying options. You can choose the all-you-can-eat for $21—the perfect choice if you want to try a bit of everything—or one of the lesser varieties starting at $13. Before you say that the $21 price tag is too much, remember they smoke everything in-house. So, believe me, it’s worth it.

B&C is more than just barbecue too. They also go hard with their sides! I’m talking mac and cheese, queso, loaded potato wedges, onion rings, and more.

Passage to India

If you haven’t been here yet, you haven’t been to Wichita! Passage to India is one of the few Indian restaurants in town, and locals can’t get enough.

Due to inflation, their lunch buffet prices have gone up. But between the naan, tandoori chicken, samosas, lamb madras, and more, you’re sure to eat more than your fair share of food.

Aside from the buffet, they have an extensive menu, so you’d be hard-pressed to leave there with an empty belly. They also have an Indian grocery store on-site in case you need to stock up on some household favorites.

If Passage to India wasn’t striking your fancy, maybe Kababs will!

This Indian and Pakistani joint offers a daily lunch buffet—three of my all-time favorite words. With classics like saag paneer and lamb korma, it’s hard not to love Kababs. I also hear their sweet vermicelli noodles for dessert (Sawaiyan) are a must-have.

The interior is beautiful, the tables are clean, and the food is always fresh. The staff does a great job at making sure the buffet is stocked and full at all times, so you can sit back and relax.
