The 8 Best Mediterranean Food Restaurants in Wichita

best mediterranean restaurants in wichita ks

When my family emigrated from Lebanon to the United States, they settled in Wichita, Kansas of all places, as did many other Arabic families. Now, Wichita has a huge Middle Eastern population, which means we’ve also got some unbelievable Mediterranean restaurants.

From hummus to tabbouli to gyros to baklava, Wichita has got it all. And, believe me, we do it right too.

So, get out there and try something new at one (or all) of the eight best Mediterranean restaurants in Wichita, Kansas. Yala na’kul!

Map of the Best Mediterranean Restaurants in Wichita, KS

Most authentic: N & J Café & Bakery

Childhood memories often distort and romanticize what once was, and that’s just a fact. But as someone who grew up eating at N&J’s and still eats there to this day, I can confirm that the food is still that good.

With homemade pita and smooth hummus, you know you’re off to a good start. Whether you’re more into kebbe, shawarma, or gyros, N&J’s has got you covered. And, since they’re Lebanese-run, they make their baklava the right way—no honey involved!

They have plant-based options too, making them a top choice for vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Wichita.

This laid-back, 30-year-old restaurant is a classic for a reason. And I know I’ll never stop eating there.

Best for parties: Two Olives & Olive Tree Catering

Yet another Mediterranean food landmark in Wichita! Currently, Two Olives is leaving the Comotara Center for bigger and better things, so there isn’t a sit-down restaurant. But you can still get food from their catering business, Olive Tree Catering, and enjoy all the grape leaves you can stomach.

The Build-Your-Own Shawarma is a great choice, as well as the Mediterranean Buffet. If they can make lamb kefta that melts on the tongue, you know not one single thing will disappoint. And that’s the Olive Tree guarantee.

So, until Two Olives opens back up, hire Olive Tree for all your catering needs. It’s time to throw a party!

American twist: Bella Luna Café

Now, let it be known that Bella Luna, while delicious, is not the most authentic Mediterranean food in town. It’s a Mediterranean and American fusion: casual dining with French fries and hummus platters. Best of both worlds.

I personally always order the falafel there or, back in my meat-eating days, the chicken shawarma. But I’ve heard great things about their fish entrees and kabobs too.

Again, not entirely authentic or traditional. That hummus is for sure Americanized, but if it tastes good, then there’s no problem in my book.

Date night: Café Maurice

The kebbe I grew up eating was served in squares, hushweh between the two layers of meat. That being said, I absolutely love Café Maurice’s fried, football-shaped kebbe. I could eat them every day and still never grow sick of them.

The gyro wrap is another go-to of mine, and the shawarma over rice for dinner sits well and fills me up. Winner, winner, shawarma dinner!

Best of all, they serve complimentary tiramisu with every meal ordered. That thick coat of cinnamon on top is, quite frankly, the best.

And, of course, since I’ve been coming here since they opened in 2010, Therese, the co-founder, pinches my cheeks with every visit. And who knows? She may pinch yours too.

Best service: Le Monde Café

Le Monde Café has just about everything, as they feature French, Mediterranean, and Italian cuisine. As another great option for Mediterranean food, this casual restaurant is perfect for a quick lunch or sit-down dinner with the family.

Believe it or not, their most famous item is not the grape leaves, braised lamb shank, or baklava. No, no, it’s their buttermilk biscuits. But seriously, you should go try them now.

For a healthier meal, try the Fattoush salad with salmon on top. You’re still getting those Mediterranean flavors, but without the added grease.

Best meat pies: M.I.F. Deli

Open since 1969, M.I.F. Deli has fun playing around with classic recipes and adding their own delicious twist.

Speaking of, those meat pies, though! Yes, M.I.F. (short for Mediterranean International Foods) has some of the best homemade pies in town. Whether you’re feeling meat pies, spinach, or a little bit of feta, they’ve got you covered. They also serve delicious bierocks, but that’s beside the point.

On top of their meat pies, M.I.F. also has pita pizzas! You can top yours with a variety of cheeses, pesto, gyro sauce, or veggies—and they cost under $10. Bang for your buck if you ask me.

Best shawarma: College Hill Deli and Catering

Man, I love this place! I used to walk here to get their chicken shawarma sandwich almost every weekend.

Located in College Hill, this restaurant makes for a great lunch spot or family-friendly dinner joint. That lamb burger with tzatziki sauce is a personal favorite, as are the gyro nachos, which somehow manage to combine two of my favorite things.

The sweetest man, Ali, runs College Hill Deli and Catering, and he’s such a joy! He gives the biggest hugs in town and makes a mean chicken shawarma.

So, run along and visit College Hill Deli for some raucous laughter and seriously good food.

On-the-go: Meddys

Alright, alright, it is a chain, but it’s still pretty good, okay? Founded by a WSU alum who moved from Lebanon in the ‘90s, Meddys may be fast food, but it’s still got the beloved flavors of authentic Mediterranean cuisine.

Whether you’re in the mood for shawarma, falafel, or hummus bowls, Meddys is ready and able to assist! It’s quick, delicious, and a great option when you’ve got a jam-packed schedule but still want to keep it healthy.

Top tip: they also have a vegan and gluten-free menu for anybody out there with dietary restrictions!
