The 8 Best Sushi Restaurants in Cleveland (Ranked by a Local)

best sushi restaurants cleveland

Japan is definitely on my husband’s bucket list for a top travel destination! While we probably won’t be going to Japan anytime soon, we will definitely be eating a LOT of sushi this summer. Patio season is our favorite time of year, and if you live in the Midwest, you know how limited our time outdoors is!

While this quintessential Japanese dish is a must-have for some, finding a solid spot in Cleveland can be challenging.

After tasting quite a few of these myself, surveying friends and family, and doing in-depth research, here are the 5 best sushi restaurants in Cleveland. (Plus a few bonus honorable mentions!)

Best sushi on the West Side: Voodoo Tuna

With a focus on “Asian fusion” offerings, Voodoo Tuna offers a great menu with a large selection of sushi rolls, fun cocktail options, and plenty of choices for non-sushi lovers (their fried rice is a game changer).

Voodoo’s home is in Lakewood, Ohio on the west side of Cleveland. Their restaurant is centrally located on Detriot Avenue, near plenty of other restaurants and bars if you want to make a night of it!

A quick note: Voodoo Tuna is definitely a more “Americanized” sushi place. Their rolls are excellent, but if you want a more authentic experience, keep reading!

Best high-end sushi: Marble Room

Marble Room is a popular, high-end restaurant in the heart of Downtown. With a focus on seafood and an exquisite raw bar, this is a must-try if you want high-end, delicious, fresh sushi!

Plus, if you want to try out living like the rich and famous, know that Marble Room is a favorite spot for many celebrities visiting Cleveland.  Kacey Musgraves, Miley Cyrus, and Machine Gun Kelly (a Cleveland native!) have all dined here, just to name a few.

P.S. – It should be noted that this is definitely a pricier spot, and reservations are hard to get. I recommend booking way in advance in order to get a spot for your preferred time.

  • Address: 623 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH 44114

Best sushi on the East Side: Pacific East

Located at Eton Plaza in Chagrin, Pacific East offers a wide selection of sushi at an affordable price range and great lunch specials! This is the perfect spot to grab a quick bite after shopping at Eton or Pinecrest.

My personal favorite items on the menu are their Miso soup (a classic) and their Pacific East roll, with salmon, tuna, and yellowtail.

Best All You Can Eat Sushi: Kintaro

With five locations throughout the greater Cleveland area (you can see them all here), Kintaro is the perfect spot when you are in the mood for good sushi and lots of it. They have an extensive menu with plenty of rolls to choose from. The all-you-can-eat price is less than 30 bucks for dinner and less than 20 bucks for lunch!

  • Address: 3111 Westgate Mall, Suite A128, Fairview Park, OH 44126
  • Website: Kintaro

Best sushi in downtown Cleveland: Goma

Located on East 4th St. in the heart of downtown Cleveland, Goma is a new, modern restaurant with a focus on “Maki, nigiri, otsukuri, and other classics.” If you are looking for a fine-dining experience with a lower price tag than Marble Room, this is your spot! Their menu is extensive, including a great cocktail list, and they are centrally located near plenty of fun bars. If you are going to see a comedy show in the evening, grab a bite to eat at Goma before you walk a few feet over to Hilarities!

Honorable Mentions

While the next three restaurants didn’t make it to the top 5, they are definitely still delicious and worth trying if you are a sushi connoisseur!

Located in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, Ginko serves freshly prepared sushi and seafood with a modern twist. They also have a great happy hour from 4-6 p.m. If you want a unique experience, I recommend booking the six-course chef’s tasting menu.

Be warned: they have limited hours of 4-10 p.m. and are closed on Sunday and Monday, but walk-ins are welcome!

  • Address: 2247 Professor Ave, Cleveland, Ohio 44113
  • Website: Ginko

Ninja Sushi & Hibachi, located in Mentor, is a perfect place to try if you live east of downtown and don’t want to fight traffic or look for parking downtown! There are over 100 unique and delicious rolls to try, as well as a great kids’ menu if you have little ones.

P.S. Mentor On The Lake is BEAUTIFUL during the summer months…try to catch a sunset on Lake Erie at Mentor Headlands State Park after you grab dinner at Ninja!

While Parallax is currently closed, I’ve heard through the grapevine that the owners are working diligently to have the place up and running again soon. This was a fan-favorite in Cleveland that unfortunately had to shut down operations during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Keep an eye on their website for updates!
