Georges French Bistro

Is it a little pricy? Sure thing. But is it still worth an occasional date night visit or momentous celebratory dinner? Absolutely.

Georges French Bistro is the pinnacle of high-class dining in Wichita. With gorgeous hanging lights, a well-stocked bar, and delicious food to boot, you’re not just getting dinner: you’re getting an experience.

As you might imagine, Georges French Bistro specializes in French dining. I’m talking both savory and sweet crepes, mussels soaked in white wine and butter, French onion soup, croque madams, and so much more.

Georges is home to one of my favorite meals in Wichita: the rich, delicious, and oh-so-salty bouillabaisse. They only serve it occasionally, so be sure to head on down when they do, because I swear it makes my tongue melt with happiness.

This bistro is very popular, so be sure and make your reservation at least a week in advance.

Sabor Latin Bar & Grille

Sabor Latin Bar & Grille is a great romantic option for plant-based eaters and carnivores alike. Previously mentioned in the Best Plant-Based Eats in Wichita article, Sabor strikes again!

You can eat all the adobo pork, grilled tilapia, and crispy calamari you can imagine here. I, of course, would order that stacked polenta entrée and revel in the black bean sauce. If you love a little bit of spice or some top-notch flavor, Sabor is the place for you. Plus, their sangria is to die for.

If you’re still not convinced, Sabor is located in the super cutesy area of Old Town, next to the movie theater. And it’s only a block away from the old-school arcade and several breweries. In other words? It’s the perfect location for a luxurious stroll after dinner: a great excuse to hold hands for a few moments longer before saying goodnight.

Café Bel Ami

Stepping into Café Bel Ami feels like stepping into another century. With intricate murals on the ceiling, hanging drapes, and ornate lighting, it is quite literally the dictionary definition of “romantic.”

Now, onto the food. I have one word for you: wow. This French Mediterranean cuisine does not disappoint when it comes to flavor or melt-in-your-mouth texture. Any place that serves lamb already has my heart, but add to that shrimp ravioli, a London broil, and lemon herb salmon, and I’m a goner.

And, because it’s Wichita and we love our Mediterranean food, they offer baklava as one of their delicious desserts. Makes my little, half-Lebanese heart flutter.

Larkspur Bistro & Bar

I’m ashamed to say when I was a teenager, all I would order at Larkspur was Caesar salad. My younger self didn’t know what she was missing out on.

Larkspur is all about their seafood and steaks, so get ready for calamari, mussels, salmon, and crab cakes. Although the food is delicious, the best part of Larkspur is the patio. With trailing vines and cozy lighting, their outdoor seating is perfect for date night.

Everyone is incredibly friendly at Larkspur, which makes it all the more Kansas.

Wine Dive

Previously known as Mike’s Wine Dive, Wine Dive is best known for their wine selection and, if you’re me, their BUILD YOUR OWN S’MORES DESSERT. Yes! They serve it with a tiny fire, so you can roast your own marshmallows at the table! Literally, my dream come true.

Wine Dive is funky fresh: classic eats mixed with fun things like hibachi-style s’mores (yes, they deserve to be mentioned twice) and drunken bread. With dim lighting, cooler-than-I’ll-ever-be servers, and delicious drinks, Wine Dive will get you tipsy on alcohol and love, if you know what I’m saying.

That Wild Boar Bolognese though—so rich, so good.

Piatto Neapolitan Pizzeria

Piatto is a small restaurant that houses a giant, 6,000-lb brick pizza oven right in the middle of it. Yep, you can watch your pizza bake or you can stare lovingly into your date’s eyes. Whatever the night calls for!

Using techniques taken straight from Italy, Piatto’s pizzas always come out doughy, fluffy, and with the lightest char on top. They’ve got plenty of meat and cheese options, but, no matter what you choose, it’s some of the best pizza in Wichita.

Piatto is the place for you if you’re looking for a more intimate night out. You can also sop up that pizza with some fresh brews from Hopping Gnome afterward if the date’s going well. A night on the town, if you will.

Vora Restaurant European

Cocktails, wine, high-quality ingredients, and consistently delicious food. That’s the Vora recipe for success!

Duck is a delicacy in Wichita, but especially so within my family. We have fought tooth and nail for the last bite of duck confit, and the duck at Vora would probably tear our family apart for good. It’s that amazing.

The luxurious decor and marble countertops only add to the date night mood. Plus, Vora has stellar customer service, because, after all, it’s Kansas, and we value hospitality and kindness above all else.

Vora is pricy, but it’s not the priciest on this list, so declare it a “treat yourself” night and splurge a little!

Gabby’s Peruvian Restaurant

Here in Wichita, all you have to do to take a trip across the world in one night is drive down Seneca.

After almost closing in 2020, the good people of Wichita spoke up and kept Gabby’s open through the pandemic. Now, they’re still going strong and making waves around town for their flavorful food and great service. We’re loyal to local, and we’re especially loyal to Gabby’s.

As the only Peruvian restaurant in town, Gabby’s is quite literally the only place where you can get arroz chaufa, aji de gallina, and fried yucca. Their daily specials are where they truly shine, though. And they serve Peruvian beer!

This casual atmosphere is nice and laidback, so you don’t have to worry about spilling food on your fancy clothes. Come here to relax and eat some truly beautiful food.

The Belmont

College Hill was the birthplace of modern-day romance, right? After taking a tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright Allen house, you can stop by the Belmont for dinner and drinks. With tons of natural light and blue velvet booths, the Belmont is classy, modern, and chic. Perfect for date night!

They try to stay as local as possible when it comes to their food and drink menu, so expect to eat some Bagatelle Bakery bread when you visit! Their menu is classic American with a unique twist, like fried green tomatoes with blue cheese or a fried chicken sandwich with pineapple and coconut slaw. Spice it up!

College Hill is a great place to walk around after dinner too, which makes the Belmont an even more romantic option. An evening stroll to a bar or just to see the many funky houses in College Hill? Yes, a thousand times, yes!

Café Maurice

Café Maurice is home to some of the best Mediterranean food in town for a reasonable price. Plus, if you’re worried about paying for dessert, never fear! They serve you tiramisu for free. For free!

I love going to Café Maurice for a refreshing meal before an event or show, whether that be Music Theater Wichita or a concert downtown. The service is reliably quick, so you won’t be checking your watch or worrying about being late.

To sum up: it’s authentic food at a great price. You won’t be breaking the bank for a nice dinner at Café Maurice!

Special Mention

Although Luciano’s is not in Wichita, I wouldn’t dare leave out my favorite Italian restaurant because of some mileage. Especially when it’s only in Mulvane! Get on KS-15 or I-35 South, and you’ll be there in no time. Who said a quick road trip wasn’t romantic?

Mulvane is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Wichita—we’re basically next-door neighbors!

Luciano came straight from Italy to settle in, you guessed it, Mulvane, Kansas. Although that transition still boggles me to this day, it’s worked out in our favor, since he makes some of the best Italian food in town. But good luck with those pronunciations—I always butcher them.

If you’re too afraid to order pasta on the first date and usually stick with salad instead, you’re in for a lovely treat. The salads come in homemade cheese bowls! They’re so good! Eating healthy (with cheese bowls) really hits the spot.

They’ve also got a great little shop at the entrance with both Italian and local goods for all your pasta-making needs. Did I mention they sell fresh pasta and sausage too? Their deli is well-stocked and, frankly, the stuff of dreams. You could even buy some of that fresh pasta and cook it at home for the next date night. The possibilities are endless!
