The 6 Best Bowling Alleys in Wichita (Ranked by a Local)

best bowling alleys wichita kansas

Let’s just get this out of the way: am I a great bowler? No, not at all. I would be incredibly proud of myself if I managed to score over 90 points in any given game.

That being said, do I appreciate the vibes, ambience, and competitiveness of a bowling alley? You’re gosh darn right I do.

As a young’un, I attended tournament after tournament because my sibling was on the high school bowling team. Gotta get that P.E. credit somehow, am I right?

We’ve got leagues, we’ve got arcades, we’ve got cosmic bowling, but most of all, we’ve got competition. Read on to learn more about Doo-Dah City’s bowling scene, including my picks for the best bowling alleys in Wichita!

Best overall: The Alley

Oh, the Alley. I mean, how many of us took middle school field trips to the Alley at the end of the year? Raise your hands, come on I know you’re out there.

For those of you that didn’t, let me just say that the Alley is every kid’s dream come true. There’s an arcade, giant pans of greasy pizza, and cosmic bowling! There’s something about the galaxy lights flashing across the ceiling while rolling our glow-in-the-dark bowling balls that just hits different.

And if all that isn’t enough for you, there’s Go-Karts. And an Escape Room. And Hologate, a Virtual Reality game. Seriously, there is something for literally everyone there. It’s time to play like a kid again.

Best for arcade: Round1 Wichita

Round1 is one of Wichita’s newer features, barely two years old. Located in the bottom of Towne East Square, Round1 is certainly an experience. The giant layout features eight bowling lanes, a huge selection of arcade games, private karaoke rooms (!!!), and classic mall food.

Now, to be completely fair, Round1 is really an arcade that has some bowling lanes. Think Dave & Buster’s meets a good old bowling alley. But that being said, if you’re looking to try a little bit of everything, then Round1 is for you.

They have a huge selection of arcade games, which were always my favorite as a kid. Those stuffed animal prizes? Worth every dang penny. Although Round1 is a little pricier than the other alleys on this list, it’s still a great choice for the occasional fun family outing.

Or, of course, you could rent one of their private karaoke rooms and sing Céline Dion to your heart’s content. Invite me, please!

Best for competition: Northrock Lanes

For those of you more experienced bowlers, Northrock Lanes will be your one-stop-shop. Fun fact, they are the largest bowling alley in the state of Kansas, boasting 48 lanes for pros and newbies alike. Indeed!

If 48 lanes ain’t enough for you, Northrock also has a giant banquet hall capable of seating 100+ people. It might be time to take that annual office party up a notch.

But Northrock doesn’t stop there. They host a ton of bowling leagues throughout Kansas, youth and adult alike, and often competitions, tournaments, and other glorious championships. Believe me, I’ve seen plenty of them, and they can get pretty heated.

Plus, they have a pro shop on their premises where you can buy your own pair of bowling shoes, a ball or two, and a bag to stuff it all into. We love shopping local!

Best deal: Seneca Bowl

If I’m being completely honest here, one of my absolute necessities in a bowling alley is, you guessed it, cosmic bowling. Thankfully, Seneca Bowl also understands the importance of a cosmic atmosphere and happily provides it.

Although West Acres may be the least expensive overall, Seneca Bowl offers a pretty amazing deal: for a few hours every weekday, bowling (shoes included) is only $8 a person. Not eight bucks an hour, no, no. Eight bucks a person.

They also have a pro shop, perfect for those who can’t stand wearing the same bowling shoes as everyone else, and individual lessons. Now, I’m personally in need of those one-on-one lessons, but for those who aren’t, they’ve got plenty of leagues to join too!

Small but mighty: Shocker Sports Grill & Lanes

This one is a little off the beaten path, sure, but frankly it’s a great place to meet new people. Located on the Shocker campus in the Rhatigan Student Center, the Shocker Sports Grill & Lanes is a small alley open to students, faculty, staff, and the general public. If you’re looking to celebrate after a fantastic Shocker win, head on over to the Rhatigan.

The Shocker Sports Grill & Lanes is truly the perfect place to hold a small to medium-sized party. They’ve got pool tables and a brand-new grill for all you avid meat-eaters out there, plus, our all-time favorite, bowling. What’s not to love?

Best for kiddos: West Acres Bowling Center

Overall, I’m pretty sure West Acres is the cheapest bowling in town during the week. $9 an hour for an adult, shoes included? Now, that’s not a deal, a special, or a once-in-a-lifetime offer.

They just really want you to come out, throw some bowling shoes on, and have a good time!

But, more importantly, West Acres Bowling Center offers some of the best youth programs not just in Kansas but in the whole country! Your kids can become pros at the ripe old age of three years old. Yep, you read that right. Three years old!

If you’re looking for a no-frills experience without any hidden costs or ringing arcade games, West Acres has got you covered.
